Silueta porteña

When you walk past us in the afternoons
your heels click on the sidewalk,
marking the beats of the melodious cadences of a playful street milonga.
And in your swaying step you seem to dance,

You wear in your hair a little Criolle afternoon, a clear sky bordered with clouds,
in your headband the colors of Argentina, which is all your pride

And the boys tell you compliments, like little flowers that they offer at your feet,
which you pick up and weave through your hair, next to the scarf that adorns your head.
Your body tells of your arrogance and your cadence
and your heels provoke on the sidewalk:
’I am the Criole spirit made into a silhouette,’
and they crowned you the prettiest and most Buenos Aires.

Dice tu cuerpo tu arrogancia y tu cadencia
y tus taquitos provocando en la vereda:
Soy el espíritu criollo hecho silueta
y te coronan la más guapa y más porteña.

***Amazing metaphor; describes a hairband with the Argentian flag colors, (or famous Argentinian sky colors.) but also saying that she wears the Essence of those Argentinian qualities, and carries with her the pride of being Argentinian. The “sun” in her eyes: both the sun in the flag, and the idea of bright passionate eyes, simultaneously. They treat the idea of ‘flowers in her hair’ in the same manner.***
